손을 찾는 손: 손으로 만드는 사람들

빛과 어둠이 맞닿은 희미한 경계에서, 시공간의 개념은 흐려지고 손끝의 감각은 더없이 선명해진다. 어둠 속을 더듬어 가는 손길은 또 다른 손길을 찾아 나서고, 마주한 미세한 떨림과 온기는 낯선 존재의 기척을 암시한다. 알파 콜렉티브(Ahlfah! Collective)는 공예와 동시대 미술을 가로지르는 창작자를 이어주고자 개관한 프로젝트 스페이스다. 이번 개관전에서 '손'은 세계를 감각하는 비언어적 매개로, 타자와의 관계를 형성하는 적극적인 행위의 주체다. 알파 콜렉티브가 초청한 작가 7팀은 도예, 금속 공예, 설치 등 여러 장르에 걸친 수작업을 선보인다. 이들의 서로 다른 손길이 조우함으로써 이곳에 새로운 관계가 형성되고 어우러지며 공간을 가능성의 장(field)으로 열어 준다.

전시는 '수작'과 '정신성'을 중추로 삼는다. 전통 공예의 노동 집약성, 장인 정신부터 동시대 미술의 실험성까지 교차하는 궤적을 그리고자 장인 김혜정, 심현석, 이상협, 이현승을 비롯해, 데코레이티브 노이(맨디 리, 조수연), 박카로, 허지예를 한자리에 모았다. 손의 움직임과 정신의 흐름이 서로를 이끌며 순환하는 과정에서, 신체와 의식이 감응하는 '창조적 실천'이 탄생한다.

김혜정은 백자의 단아한 선과 은은한 유약이 빚어내는 고요한 긴장감을 포착하며, 실용과 관조 사이의 경계를 자연스럽게 넘나드는 동시에 도예의 정신적 차원을 심화한다. 심현석은 섬세한 손길로 제작된 필기구가 사용자의 손을 거치며 새로운 생명력을 얻는 순환적 관계를 드러낸다. 이상협은 은판을 두들겨 항아리의 형태를 빚어내는 장인적 행위를 통해 전통적 도예의 형태와 금속의 물성이 교차하는 지점을 포착한다. 이현승은 옻칠이라는 전통적 매체의 시간성과 물성을 수행적 과정으로 승화시키며, 자연과 인간, 전통과 현대를 잇는 지속 가능한 미학을 구현한다.

맨디 리는 일상의 사물과 기억을 수집하고 재구성하는 과정에서 이질적 재료들의 우연한 조우를 통해 불완전함의 시적 가치를 포착하며, 이를 통해 개인적 서사와 보편적 정서의 접점을 드러낸다. 팀 데코레이티브 노이로도 활동하는 맨디 리와 조수연은 비정형의 세라믹 조형물에 주술적 제의와 조형 실험을 접목하며, 사물과 존재 사이의 근원적 연결성을 탐구한다. 박카로는 도자를 매체로 의례적 도상을 구현하며, 초월적 사유와 의식의 흐름을 형상화한다. 허지예는 손의 감각과 기억을 도자로 영구히 각인하며, 일시적인 경험을 지속적인 기록으로 남긴다.

전시 공간에서 공유되는 순간, 작품은 세상과의 관계망 속에서 끊임없이 의미를 확장해 나간다. 이때 관객의 시선은 시각적 수용을 넘어 촉각적 경험으로 확장되며, 감각적으로 탐색하게 된다. 결국, '손을 찾는 손'들은 서로를 향해 나아가며 새로운 관계와 서사를 창조하는 지속적인 움직임 속에 존재한다. 본 전시는 관객과 작품이 교차하는 공간이자, 감각과 서사가 끊임없이 변주되는 열린 구조를 지닌다.

At the faint boundary where light and darkness meet, the concept of time and space begins to blur, while the sensation at the fingertips grows ever more vivid. Hands groping through the darkness reach out in search of another, and the subtle tremors and warmth they encounter hint at the presence of an unfamiliar existence. Ahlfah! Collective serves as a place where these diverse hands converge, intertwine, and create new possibilities. Here, the hand functions not only as a nonverbal medium for perceiving the world but also as an active gesture that forges relationships with others.

Via 𝘈 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴, Ahlfah! Collective sheds light on the unique material explorations and creative transformations pursued by each artist. The interplay between the movement of hands and the flow of thought forms a cyclical process, culminating in a creative practice where the body and consciousness resonate with one another.

Hyejeong Kim’s porcelain blurs the boundaries between material and spirit, utility and futility, embodying an object that exists in the in-between. Mandy Lee and Suyeon Cho explore the fundamental interconnectedness between entities by integrating ritualistic practices with sculptural experimentation through amorphous ceramic forms. Park Karo visualizes the transcendental nature of thought and consciousness by reinterpreting ritual iconography. Hyunseok Sim presents a cyclical relationship in which objects meticulously crafted by hand acquire new vitality through the touch of the user. William Sanghyub Lee captures the intersection between the cold materiality of metal and the warmth of human temporality through artisanal metalwork. Lee Hyun-seungreconfigures cultural hybridity into an aesthetic language by engaging in the repetitive practice of lacquerwork. Jiye Heo explores the sensory and mnemonic qualities of the hand, permanently imprinting ephemeral experiences onto ceramics as lasting records.

The moment an artwork is shared within the exhibition space, it extends itself into a network of relationships with the world, continuously expanding its meaning. At this juncture, the viewer’s gaze transcends mere visual reception, evolving into a tactile experience that invites sensory exploration. Ultimately, these 𝘈 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥 moves toward one another, existing within a perpetual motion that generates new relationships and narratives. This exhibition serves as a site where viewers and artworks intersect—an open structure in which perception and narrative constantly shift and evolve.
