배지현의 첫 개인전 <REPEAT!>은 존재와 부재 사이에서 발현한 그리움, 즉 사라지는 것과 남아 있는 것의 교집합이 만들어내는 기억의 틈에 대해 이야기한다. 그 틈이 있기에 우리의 사고는 유연해지고, 잊고 있던 가능성을 다시 꿈꾸게 된다.

작가는 이 틈을 반복되는 감정의 리듬으로 시각화한다. 그의 회화 속 장면들은 스톱모션 애니메이션의 시각 언어를 통해, 정지된 시간과 느린 움직임이 공존하는 세계를 만들어낸다. 동일한 장면, 색의 흐름, 빛의 각도가 미세하게 변주되며 반복될 때, 감정은 그 속에서 서서히 축적되고 형태를 얻는다.

익숙함과 낯섦이 교차하는 이 장면들 속에서, 관객은 사라진 것들의 흔적과 여전히 남아 있는 감정의 무게를 마주한다. 이번 전시는 작가가 지속적으로 탐구해온 ‘그리움’이라는 감정의 구조를 통해, 부재 속에서도 스스로의 존재를 감각하게 되는 순간을 포착한다.

Bae Jihyun’s first solo exhibition <REPEAT!> explores the longing that arises in between presence and absence, the gaps in memory formed at the intersection of what fades and what remains. Through these gaps, our thinking becomes more fluid and allows us to dream of the possibilities that were once forgotten.

The artist visualises these gaps as a rhythm of recurring emotion. The scenes in her paintings borrow from the visual language of stop-motion to create a world where time has stopped and movement is slow. The scenes, the rhythm of the colours and the angle of the light change ever so slightly, and emotion slowly builds and takes form within.

​

The audience is faced with the emotional weight of what remains and emotions that never disappear when met with the intersections of familiarity and unfamiliarity. This exhibition captures the moment of realisation of one’s own existence within absence, continuing the artist’s exploration of the emotional structure of longing.
